Seiyo Shorin-Ryu Karate and Kobudo dojo trains in traditional
Okinawan martial arts. “Seiyo” means “Western” while “Shorin-
Ryu” translates to “small forest style”. Seiyo Shorin-Ryu is a
non-sport style martial art open to children, adults, and families
wanting to learn and grow in a self-paced environment. We en-
courage families to train together as this is the traditional style of
learning in Okinawan martial arts.
Our purpose is to develop balance between body, mind, and spirit,
not only to increase in physical capacity and the ability to protect
others and ourselves, but also in mental acuity and respect for oth-
ers, ourselves, and the world around us.
Shihan Vance began training in Seiyo Shorin-Ryu Karate and
Kobudo under Soke Dan Hausel (10th dan) at the University of Wy-
oming in 1998. He enjoys sharing his passion for traditional martial
arts with all those interested in seeking a more balanced way of
life.
